The Looney Tunes Video Show is a series of Looney Tunes VHS releases by Warner Home Video. It was the first release of the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons on VHS, with a set of seven volumes released on North America in November 1982.[1] It consisted of a wide range of post-August 1948 animated shorts, which Warner Bros. held the distribution rights at the time. It was the only VHS collection to include cartoon shorts from the DePatie–Freleng (1964-1967) and Warner Bros.-Seven Arts (1967-1969) eras.

There were a total of 19 volumes in the series. The first seven tapes were released in both North America and the United Kingdom.[1] However, an additional twelve volumes were released exclusively in the UK and other PAL countries; volumes 8 to 13 were released on January 1984, while volumes 14 to 19 were August of the same year.[2]

Behind the scenes

  • For the initial seven volumes, each video tape features seven cartoons, and opens with a plain, static title card with the 1955-1964 Merrie Melodies opening music playing over it.
  • For the additional PAL releases, there were ten cartoons per volume.
  • In terms of picture quality, the prints of the cartoons in each tape appear to be more faded than later VHS releases.
