Character descriptions

Ralph Wolf

Ralph Wolf has virtually the same character design as Wile E. Coyote, another creation of Chuck Jones. He has brown fur, a wiry body, and huge ears, but the only changes are his red nose in place of the Coyote's black one; (usually) white eyes instead of the Coyote's yellow ones; and, occasionally, a sharp fang protruding from his mouth. He also shares Wile E.'s appetite and recurring use of Acme Corporation products, but he covets his hunger to sheep instead of roadrunners.

Another difference is that of personality: Ralph does not have the fanatical drive of the Coyote in pursuing his prey; instead catching the sheep is only his weekday job as indicated by the time clock both he and Sam punch at the start and end of the workday. Unlike Wile E. Coyote (who is primarly mute in the Road Runner cartoons), Sam usually speaks at the beginning and end of the shorts, and remains silent for the majority of his appearances.

Sam Sheepdog

Sam Sheepdog is a large, burly Briard with white and tan fur and a mop of red hair that usually covers his eyes. He very rarely runs and tends to be sedentary in his movements. In spite of his apparent immobility, Sam possesses enough strength to incapacitate Ralph with a single punch once he catches him. Like Sam, he usually talks in the beginning and end of their cartoons.
