Release

Dates are in order of release:

  • United States: August 31, 1957 in theatres

Behind the scenes

  • The title is a pun on the duo, Rocky and Mugsy.
  • This short shares similarities with the 1950 Merrie Melodies cartoon, Stooge for a Mouse, such as Rocky and Hector/Mike saying to Sylvester and Mugsy "I don't know how youse done it, but I know youse done it!" and the mouse and Bugs using a magnet to make it look like Mugsy and Sylvester are fighting Rocky and Hector/Mike, since both cartoons were directed by Friz Freleng.

Errors

  • There are continual continuity errors in this short. For instance, Bugs' size changes; outside his hole, he is normal-sized, but inside, he is the size of a mouse as indicated by the size of the magnet he is holding near the end of the short.
  • When Bugs gives Mugsy the saw, he has yellow hair, as it was revealed when Rocky used a cleaver to chop his newsie cap in half, revealing his hair. When Rocky goes to yell at him, his hair incorrectly matches the color of his skin.

Everlasting influence

  • Some special attacks used for both Rocky and Mugsy in the video game, Looney tunes: World of Mayhem, involved scenes from this cartoon.
  • In the video game, Bugs Bunny: Lost in Time, the stage The Greatest Escape was inspired by this cartoon, as Bugs navigates through an abandoned hotel based on the one from this cartoon.
