Memorable quotes
Mouse #1: All that beautiful food is going to waste and we are starving.
José: Maybe we could sneak in and get some.
Mouse #2: José, you must be loco en la capeza. You know this rancho belong to Don Daffy de la Scrooge del Meanie del Tora de la Quack, Jr. He hates poor people.
Daffy: Such impudence. You forced me to declare war on poverty! Prepare to defend yourselves!
Mouse: If my cousin, Speedy Gonzales was here...
Daffy: I'll make the smart cracks around here, and don't give me that "Speedy Gonzales" stuff! He's just a myth.
Daffy: Well, what do you want?
Speedy: It's your cannonball, señior.
(A cannonball flies towards Daffy and sends him foward')
Speedy: Cannonballs are very expensive. They shouldn't be wasted.
Speedy: What you mean, you don't know where they are? You haven't missed one yet!
Daffy: Ah, shut up...

Behind the scenes
- The title is a play on the term "salt and pepper."
- The MPAA certificate number is 20896.
- The short's premise is a semi-remake of Freling's 1950 short Bunker Hill Bunny, starring Bugs Bunny and Yosemite Sam.
- When the mice first mention Daffy, he is addressed with the full name, Don Daffy de la Scrooge del Meanie del Tora de la Quack, Jr. This was only used exclusively in the short.
- Daffy's comment on declaring war on poverty is likely a reference to U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson's social welfare legistation, which was introduced in 1964 during the first year of his term.
- The short was submitted for the 1965 Academy Awards, but was withdrawn before consideration.[1]
Legacy
- One of the stages in the video game Daffy Duck in Hollywood is named after this short.
