Tiny Toon Adventures

Rocky and Mugsy are a pair of gangsters and recurring antagonists in the Looney Tunes animated franchise. They were created by director Firz Freleng. A prototype of Rocky first appeared in the short Racketeer Rabbit, although both Rocky and Mugsy would officially make their debuts in the cartoons Golden Yeggs and Bugs and Thugs, respectively. Their voices were originated by Mel Blanc, not counting Dick Nelson for Rocky's prototype.

Mugsy himself also appeared without Rocky in two shorts, Napoleon Bunny-part and Carrotblanca.

Development

An earlier mob character by the name of "Rocky" made his debut in the 1946 short Racketeer Rabbit, himself a parody of actor Edward G. Robinson. The concept was used again for 1950's Golden Yeggs, of which Rocky was reworked to be a more generalized caricature of the "tough guy" gangster. Following his paring with a one-time partner named Nick in the 1953 short Catty Cornered, Rocky would officially be paired with Mugsy in Bugs and Thugs, itself a semi-remake of Racketeer Rabbit, in 1954.
