Behind the scenes
- The gameplay in this game was attributed by some to the Sonic the Hedgehog games, due to its intense speed and gravity defying properties (such as running up walls).
- Road Runner's Latin Name from "Train Runnery", Accelleratii incredibus, came from the first three Road Runner cartoons: "Fast and Furry-ous", "Beep, Beep" and "Going! Going! Gosh!".
- Another Latin Name, Birdibus Zippidus, came from "Zoom and Bored".
- Level 4's title, "Hopalong Casualty" came from the cartoon of the same name.
- Wile E.'s wild take sprites also came from the same cartoon.
- Wile E.'s chasing sprite used in the level introductions and the very first stage of the game was used in "To Beep or Not to Beep".
- A sequel titled Road Runner II: Wile E.'s Revenge was in development by Software Creations, and would have allowed the user to control Wile E. Coyote as he chases the Road Runner. The game was cancelled due to the bankruptcy of Sunsoft's U.S. subsidiary, Sun Corporation of America, in 1995.
