Release
Dates are in order of release:
- United States: January 18, 1958 in theatres
Behind the scenes
- The title is a pun of the novel by John Steinbeck and the 1942 movie, Tortilla Flats.
- This cartoon is notable as the first time in which Speedy Gonzales and his mouse friends are antagonized by a bird-of-prey, in this case, El Vulturo, as opposed to cats such as Sylvester as in the previous cartoons. Starting with the 1960 Merrie Melodies cartoon, West of the Pesos, Robert McKimson will acknowledge the fact that Sylvester would be the perfect antagonist for Speedy Gonzales.
